Piano Recital and cameo
The Bathroom Door
The evening opened with an excellent and most enjoyable recital by
Brian Anderson of popular classical
piano
pieces by Beethoven, Chopin and Grieg, interspersed with vocal
contributions by a Thomson family quartet, Stewart Wilson, Lise
Sinclair and the Fair Isle choir.
To give the bald facts that the
gentle comedy by Gertrude Jennings, performed after the the interval, featured skirmishes between five
guests for the use of a single bathroom in the hideously-decorated
corridor of the Majestic Hotel in 1920s Eastbourne does not do this
one-act frolic justice. The time
8am. 5 hotel guests are waiting to use the only bathroom on their
floor. They are all getting impatient and discuss various reasons as
to why the occupant is taking so long. After nearly half an hour of
waiting they decide something sinister has taken place... a
suicide in the bathroom perhaps?
In
fact we were delighted with cameo roles by June as the elderly
spinster terrified of men, Neil as the crusty old codger, and Sue as
the assured young lady. However, stars were undoubtedly Gina as
the minor opera singer convinced she was a celebrity, and Patrick as
the bold young man looking to make a conquest. Stanley as the
long-suffering hotel porter rounded off an excellent and convincing
cast. The play was ably produced and directed by Stewart and
thoroughly enjoyed by a large and appreciative audience. ENCORE!!
