Constitution for Classic Fair Isle.

1.  The name of the group will be "Classic Fair Isle"

 

2.   The aims and objectives of the group will be:

  1. To commission a musical work by the classical composer, Alastair Stout, whose family comes from Fair Isle.

  2. To facilitate the first public performance of this piece on Fair Isle by early autumn, 2002 for the benefit and enjoyment of the local community and the wider public.

  3. To assist in provision of education to local musicians and singers, enabling them to participate with visiting professional musicians at the premiere and subsequent performances of the composition.

  4. To encourage local adults and children, also visitors to the island to provide text for the vocal element.

  5. To publicize through the words and music the beauty and talents which this isolated island has to offer.

 

3.   Membership of the group will be for everyone who wishes to be actively involved in performing instrumentally, vocally and orally or is prepared to give time fundraising, promoting publicity and facilitating the venture wherever necessary.

 

4.   The management of the group shall comprise a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, fundraiser(s), publicist(s), coordinator, musical adviser.

 

5.   Finance:

  1. The management committee will have the power to raise funds by donations, grants and financial guarantees to enable the composer to write the music, rehearse it with performers in London and as necessary on Fair Isle, also to cover overheads re.pay, travel and accommodation for the musicians.

  2. The application of funds raised will be solely to further the aims and objectives of the group.

  3. The treasurer will keep a record of accounts, audited annually, and shall be responsible for the paying of money to the account.

  4. A bank account shall be held in the name of " Classic Fair Isle" and have two signatories.

 

6.   Members shall receive committee reports at the quarterly Island Meeting and be invited to participate in all debates and the annual general meeting to be held at a suitable time, on 14 days' notice being given by the committee.

7.   Dissolution. After the performance of the composition it is anticipated that the group's affairs will be wound up. However, this course of action shall not be taken if circumstances or the group's remit changes in any way. The management committee will therefore call a meeting to discuss this eventuality.
