Mezzo-soprano Debra Stuart, swivelling hips
circled with the ominous red scarf, was the provocative gypsy girl.
Don Jos, played by the versatile tenor, Paul
Featherstone.His
abiding passion for the gypsy, despite his sister's pleas, convincingly
precipitates a desperate knife-fight between the rivals.
When Carmen
still spurnshim and his
protestations of love, Don Jos is inexorably driven to kill rather than
lose her.
