Alandia Stream
breaks down - AGAIN !!

The tanker Alandia Stream is back in the harbour of the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal in
Shetland after the vessel developed new problems following engine repairs.
The Alandia Stream was towed into port last Sunday after she had lost power in the Fair
Isle Channel with a cargo of 78,000 tons of Forties Crude.
Following repairs and engine trials the vessel left Sullom Voe in the early hours of
yesterday (THU) escorted by four Shetland Towage tugs, but had to return to the port,
after only getting as far as the Yell Sound.
It is understood an engineer will fly up to Shetland today (FRI) with a spare part for the
engines.
The Alandia Stream had been on passage from the Firth of Forth to Tranmere, Liverpool,
when she broke down near Fair Isle.
The incident has provoked an outcry from the small island's population who are campaigning
for an exclusion zone for ships, carrying hazardous goods, to be implemented around Fair
Isle.
The exact nature of the original breakdown has not yet been released, only that it was
something to do with the 'electrical systems'.
The question now arises, 'Was the fully laden vessel sent out of Sullom Voe on its
way to Liverpool because of commercial pressures, despite not being properly fixed?'
